State Greenhouse Gas Emissions reports annual CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion. CO2 emissions are reported for commercial, industrial, residential, transportation, and electric power sectors. In addition, this database reports CO2 emissions as a share of GSP, CO2 emissions per capita, and electric power sector emissions in both metric tons and pounds per megawatt hour of electricity produced in each state. Data that are not available as indicated as NA. Please note that these data do not include emissions from other GHG, including methane and other gases. CO2 emissions currently reflect roughly 83% of total (i.e., gross) U.S. GHG emissions, excluding emissions sinks. Additional information is available through the U.S. EPA, which is the source for these data.
For limited coverage of GHG emissions that include all recognized GHG gases (vs. CO2 only), see GHG emissions from all sources based on Jonathan L. Ramseur, State Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Comparison and Analysis RL34272, CRS Report for Congress, 2007, Tables A2, A3, pp. 23-26.
